The Orthodox Canon Law Society of North America (OCLS) welcomes attorneys to attend and present at their 2024 conference on October 18–19, 2024 at Holy Cross School of Theology in Brookline, MA. The Orthodox Canon Law Society especially welcomes presentations from attorneys on topics involving civil law and its impact on the Church.
OCAN plans to sponsor an event at the Conference and encourages our membership to attend and participate.
Recent litigation continues to raise important questions regarding Orthodox church life and our religious communities. Attorneys have an important role in the life of the Church and are often called upon to serve in important positions of trust.
Examples of topics that attorneys may wish to present on include: church property disputes, the intersection of church and civil law on divorce, and civil laws affecting religious freedom.
Abstracts briefly summarizing the proposed presentation are due on May 31, 2024 and can be sent to orthodoxcanonlawconference@gmail.com (Extensions may be permitted upon request and may be sent to the same email address).
Those whose abstracts are accepted will be asked to make a 20-25 minute presentation at the conference. While the presentations/papers will not be published and distributed, the abstracts will appear in the conference program. See the OCLS Conference Website and the attached Call for Papers for more details (www.oclsna.org/conference). Please send general questions about the conference and OCLS to: orthodoxcanonlaw@gmail.com
